Faith in Families exceeds 2020 Appeal target

More than £12,000 was raised by Faith in Families’ 2020 Christmas Appeal – smashing the target set and providing much needed help for more than 120 East Midlands’ families.

Generous donors from across the East Midlands enabled Faith in Families (FiF) – a registered charity and independent adoption agency, established over 70 years – to make its 44th Christmas Appeal one of its most successful ever, exceeding its original £10,000 target.

Instead of collecting food and toy donations (ruled out this year due to the need for Covid-19 social distancing and safeguarding) FiF had asked for cash donations.

£50 vouchers

The Christmas Appeal enabled FiF to give families a £50 food and gift voucher before Christmas. Further £50 vouchers are set to be given out now (January/February 2021), at a time of the year when families can struggle financially, with this year being harder also due to the Covid-19 Lockdown.

The families receiving help were identified with the help of ten East Midlands’ schools, with whom Faith in Families already works through its School Social Work Service, and church parishes in the Agency’s area.  Faith in Families’ Schools Social Work Service has qualified social workers based in partner schools to work with individual pupils and groups on behavioural, emotional and other issues which can be a barrier to their learning.

Incredible response

Nicola Richardson, Community Fundraiser for Faith in Families, said: “It’s been an incredible response, especially when you consider what a difficult 2020 people had themselves and the changes we had to make in the way we do the Appeal. People have been incredibly generous and we can’t thank them enough.”

Laura Payne, the charity’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, added: “Without this Christmas Appeal some families would have had nothing and their children left with no presents to open on Christmas Day. It just shows the spirit to help that’s out there.”
