For decades our charity Christmas Appeals have been providing vulnerable East Midlands’ families with seasonal cheer.
Last year (2020), due to restrictions around the Covid-19 pandemic, we moved from our traditional collecting of physical toys and gifts to solely monetary donations – and our generous donors responded magnificently.
This meant we could provide over 120 Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire families with £50 supermarket (Aldi) vouchers towards their Christmas celebrations and into the New Year. Without donors help, children in these families might have had nothing at all to open on Christmas morning.
As one mother who received the 2020 Christmas vouchers told us:
“My daughter received Aldi vouchers from the School Social Work Service (SSWS) in her meeting at school. SSWS has been helping her with bullying and self-belief, and it has been lovely to see her enjoy school again. SSWS’s work with her has been invaluable. The vouchers were a lovely surprise and greatly received. Food is such an important topic in our house. Christmas dinner alone has been discussed since August!”
Families receiving vouchers are identified through our School Social Work Service and the schools it works with, and by working with church parishes in our catchment area.
For 2021 and our 45th Christmas Appeal we’d like to repeat this amazing effort.
